When a unit control panel is mounted in the side or end wall of the air handler portion of a unit, the control panel box must be insulated to prevent condensation from forming on the box interior. The control box itself should be double wall construction. This eliminates the need for stick-pins and taping the insulation. The door over the control panel will be pan-in-pan construction. The control box must be ventilated, both at the top and bottom, to allow convective air flow through the panel.

When a unit control panel is mounted in the condensing section of the unit, the control box will not be insulated. The door construction will be the same as detailed above.

When a stationary panel is required at the bottom of the control panel door, the panel height from the bottom of the panel should be 6”.
