Subject: (8) ADMINISTRATION---AUTOCAD UNIT DIMENSIONAL DRAWINGS

When creating a unit dimensional drawing, ensure that the measured distance in the drawing corresponds to the dimension shown. If a unit length is dimensioned "427", the measured distance must be 427. This rule applies to unit overall dimensions, duct sizes and locations, chase locations, distances between ducts---anything that has a dimension line. In the past, an object might be dimensioned as "240" but the measured distance would be "187.3457" or "319.4210"...anything but "240". This contributes to mistakes in unit construction, curb construction, how the unit fits the curb, how the curb fits the roof, etcetera. By ensuring that the dimensions shown on the drawing match the distances measured on the drawing, the engineer has a better idea of how the components will fit with relation to one another and the cabinet, and even more importantly, costly construction mistakes will be avoided.
